The End of Capitalism?
PEJ News- Ann Robertson- The collective consciousness of the U.S. working class is on the brink of a profound transformation. We grew up being told that capitalism was the best of all possible systems, with apparent confirmation being supplied by the fall of the Soviet Union. But we are now entering a new reality that has the potential to overturn all the old, established assumptions — perhaps, in the final analysis, even to overturn capitalism itself.

Israel - Crimes Against Humanity and Propaganda
PEJ News - The Israel propaganda machine has been continuously justifying the genocide in Palestine as self defense. They also contend that what the Palestinians are doing with their rocket attacks amounts to crimes against humanity because the rockets are killing indiscriminately. Well, guess what?... both sides are guilty. Israel however, is a thousand times more guilty than Palestine. www.PEJ.org

The Massacre in Palestine and the Threat of a Wider War
PEJ News- Shamus Cooke, USA editor- Yet another Israeli-led and U.S.-backed massacre is taking place as the world watches in horror. The western media, desperately trying to peddle the puny rockets of Hamas as bullying, does journalistic back flips in avoiding the utter carnage brought down by the much more powerful — U.S. made and paid for — Israeli missiles. www.pej.org www.workerscompass.org

The Belligerence of Oppression PEJ News - Abukar Arman - By now, most of the world is aware of the horrific news of death and destruction that visited upon the people of Gaza . Millions have watched in utter shock the footage depicting Israel ’s indiscriminate and disproportionate bombing of Gaza . This brutal military campaign that already took the lives of over 300 people, including children of all ages and women, and injured over 1000 people is likely to continue as the so-called international law can neither stop Israel nor could hold it accountable. Certainly not in its current arrangement!

A New Turn in the Afghanistan War and Occupation
PEJ News - Mark Vorpahl - While the anti-war movement in the US has primarily targeted the Iraq occupation in its protests and events, opposition to the Afghanistan occupation has always been understood as a shared point of agreement among the vast majority of participants. The Afghanistan occupation has been not as prominent in the minds of protesters because of fewer lives lost and less money wasted than in Iraq. Recent developments, however, indicate that this could be changing. www.PEJ.org

Time For Autoworkers To Fight Back
PEJ News- Shamus Cooke, USA Editor - Organized labor in the U.S. is at a very serious crossroads — and with it the working class as a whole. On the one hand, union organizing is on the rise for the first time in decades, with the possibility of exploding if — and it is a big IF — the Democrats carry out their promise of passing the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). Another positive is the United Electrical Workers (UE) workers victory in Chicago, who single-handedly re-taught U.S. labor the word “militancy.” www.PEJ.org www.workerscompass.org

Bush's Farewell Gift*
PEJ News - Nicola Nasser - Al-Ahram Weekly - UN Resolution 1850 pushes Palestinian unity further from reach than ever, argues Nicola Nasser** - The body of UN Security Council Resolution 1850 avoids any meaningful mention of a two-state solution or the creation of a Palestinian state with the exception of a feeble reference late in the text -- added almost as an afterthought -- to "preparation for statehood". While the preamble does mention Resolution 1514, issued five years ago, and notes that "lasting peace can only be based on an enduring commitment to mutual recognition, freedom from violence, incitement, and terror, and the two-state solution, building upon previous agreements and obligations," and even notes "the importance of the Arab peace initiative of 2002" the seven articles of the resolution, adopted on 16 December, focus on committing all parties to continuing an endless peace process.

A Poem for Gaza PEJ News - Remi Kanazi
I never knew death until I saw the bombing of a refugee camp Craters filled with disfigured ankles and splattered torsos But no sign of a face, the only impression a fading scream I never understood pain Until a seven-year-old girl clutched my hand Stared up at me with soft brown eyes, waiting for answers But I didn't have any I had muted breath and dry pens in my back pocket That couldn't fill pages of understanding or resolution

Say "Neigh" to Horse-Drawn "Sleighs"
PEJ News - PETA - Jennifer O’Connor - The economy is so bad right now even Santa is in a slump. Towns and cities all over the country are looking for ways to trim their budgets, and many are canceling tree-lighting ceremonies and cutting back on holiday displays. Here’s one simple thing that cash-strapped municipalities can do to cut costs this holiday season: Cut out the horse-drawn carriage rides. In addition to giving horses a break, officials can eliminate the very real liability risks associated with these cruel and dangerous holiday rides. www.PETA.org

Los Imperdonables - the Unforgivable, the Unredeemable
PEJ News - JossJosephMageau - From South America´s point of view there is no doubt that those responsible for what is being billed as the greatest financial crisis since the dirty thirties were the directors of the large North American financial firms. The irony in the situation is that these executives have retreated to their homes with astronomical sums of money. Everyone lost, except for them and the people manipulated into taking out impossible loans should shoulder the blame. Move over mortgage deadbeats, the CEOs are on the take! www.PEJ.org
