US military express regret at the loss of "possibly innocent lives."
You read that right, the US Military can not even getout a straight ahead "We're sorry." I can hear the communications guys spinning overtime on this one.
Briefing note to the President of the United States of America
For the President's eyes only note: Make sure Dick reads this first so he can explain it to W
Today in Iraq a 500lb bomb hit missed the house our pilot was aiming for. The pilot was working on securing the area for the Iraqi elections. There are reports that 5 people were affected due in part to the missed target
We can not be sure unintended target hit by an errant bomb was not full of terrorists, this is Iraq after all, terrorists are everywhere. Remember that they bombed our mess tent and killed some of our guys.
It is entirely possible it was not the fault of the US Military that our bomb missed it's intended target.
The United States expresses regret at the loss of "possibly innocent lives." It was pretty hectic at the time.
The US Military is looking into the possibility a small transistor radio in the unintended target may have been using the same frequency as our bombs. Iraqi's all over the place have these radios.
Okay so I made it up, that's not really a secret briefing note to the head of the New Crusade. But you have to really wonder, even if you are for or against the war, we all know mistakes happen. Why they happen is another discussion, but wouldn't you like to hear the Bush Administration at least do part of the decent thing.
How hard would it be to say something like, "The United States is deeply sorry for this incident, we extend our sincerest condolences to the family and people of Iraq."
Just once it would be good to hear that. Not going to get it out of Bush, Cheney or Rumsfield, the Three Wise Lies Men leading the New Crusade. Nope, nada, never, forget it.
Below is the story from the LA Times, who conveniently append other news to the story, a classic "muddy the water" strategy.

(LA Times) BAGHDAD ? U.S. forces mistakenly dropped a 500-pound bomb on a house outside the northern city of Mosul early Saturday morning, the military acknowledged, killing at least five Iraqis. In an unusual step, the military released a statement saying the wrong house had been bombed and expressing regret at the loss of "possibly innocent lives."
