The largest animal testing centre of Europe is located in the Netherlands. The Biomedical Primate Research Center (BPRC) keeps 1600 monkeys in their labs. They are locked up and have to undergo terrible things, in the name of 'science'. The BPRC is performing tests in the area of infection-illnesses (such as AIDS, hepatitis and malaria), xenotransplantation, radiation, tear gas (for self defence), chronic diseases and neurological abnormities.
A comparable primate (breeding) centre in the UK, Shamrock Farm, had to close down after many demonstrations and direct actions. BPRC is going to be the next primate centre to close down!

The sell out treaty chiefs only speak for themselves, and they do not represent us on any level of government. As the Bear Clan of Maxan Lake, we want our sacred lands of Maxan Lake and traplines back into our own hands. So we can begin to live out our lives on our lands. We want to take care of our own education, housing, health and medicines. After fifty years under the three levels of governments, we still get nothing. We are denied every thing we are entitled to.
It is high time we take care of our own destinations. We want our voices to be heard now. The present treaty process of this unceded province, should be boycotted, until we can get our sacred lands of Maxan Lake and traplines back into our own hands. My voice to Grand Chief Edward John has gone unheard of for the past fifteen years or so. So will Premier Gordon Cambell, stand up and listen to my voice and give us back our sacred lands. We do not want any treatys on our sacred lands. AS they have not ask us for our consent, to steal our sacred lands. They are only the modern day Treaty Thieves, many of them do not belong to the lands they claim as theirs. Depression is one of the most commonly diagnosed disorders in the western world. And in the last decade many new drugs have emerged to treat it. But there are concerns about those drugs, and some patients and doctors are unsure whether their benefits outweigh the risks.
The Canadian Psychiatric Association says anti-depressants are still the best option for patients. But the widow of a well-known Canadian activist is questioning the role of one of those drugs in her husband's death. Tooker Gomberg was a former Edmonton City Councillor and mayoralty candidate, a peace protester and voice for the environment. CBC health reporter, Pauline Dakin has more.

Rev. Dr. Setri Nyomi is the first non-European General Secretary of
WARC, one of the oldest confessional bodies that unite Presbyterian,
Reformed, Congregational, Waldensian and some United Churches, serving
more than 75 million Christians in about 107 countries. He states
regularly his commitment to addressing injustice in any form, racism,
sexism, and the call for Christians to place value on the sacredness of
life, human wholeness and dignity for all. He has just been awarded the
E.H. Johnson Prize.
The other panelist will be the Hon. Walter McLean who served for fifteen
years as Member of Parliament for Waterloo. He held cabinet posts as
Secretary of State for Canada, Minister of Immigration and Minister
Responsible for the Status of Women. For eight years he was
parliamentary delegate to the United Nations General Assembly in New
York. A native of Victoria and graduate of UBC, he is a Presbyterian
minister and served as chair of the Commission on International Affairs
of the Canadian Council of Churches.

?Strengthening Solidarity Among Indigenous Youth - Asserting Indigenous Peoples Rights Amidst Globalization?
We are writing to you in regards to the International Indigenous Youth Conference (IIYC). To make this conference happen we need your help! We are asking for donations of food (rice, pasta, fish, seafood, vegetables, other staples), camping supplies (sleeping mats, tents, sleeping bags, tarps, air mattresses, toilet paper), outdoor tools (chainsaw, hammers, nails, screws, screwdriver), or any miscellaneous items you may be able to donate (AA, C and D batteries, candles, fishing net, flashlights, etc.) Cash donations are also welcome and very needed at this point.
The Second International Indigenous Youth Conference 2005 will be held June 17-20th in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada. The conference will take place within traditional Indigenous territories on the coast and the interior of BC and will bring together 200 Indigenous youth from the regions of Asia Pacific, South America, Northern Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, South America, Africa and the Middle East. The conference proper will be four days of workshops, sharing and network building. The conference venue is the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Center and the delegates will stay in a traditional Longhouse situated in the Capilano community, in North Vancouver, BC. Delegates will also be invited to attend National Aboriginal Day celebrations on June 21st 2005, and take part in an integration with the St?at?imc Nation in Sutikalh (near Mt. Currie BC) from June 22-24th 2005. The donations we have requested are needed to provide the Indigenous youth delegates with healthy food, and safe accommodation while they are in Vancouver, Capilano, and Sutikalh. We want the youth to have a memorable, educational, cultural, and meaningful experience here in BC and we hope you can support our endeavors to do so.
