Growth Phase of Human Development Drawing To A Close
Sustainability Project - Mike Nickerson - A New Goal is Necessary and your help is needed to establish it. Now that politicians of all stripes are singing the green tune, our task is to make sure that they understand the lyrics. It needs to be made clear that the growth phase of human development is drawing to a close, that collectively, we are overwhelming the Earth's ability, both to provide natural resources, and to absorb our waste. Continuing efforts to expand the material economy are self-defeating.

We do not have to grow until we drop! The first step toward resolving Climate Change is to question the present goal.
Is it proper, now that our biggest problems result from our size, to hold growth as a goal? Would it be better to focus on securing necessities for everyone within the carrying capacity of the Earth?
This is the Question of Direction. More details are available at:

Broad public discussion about goals is essential before we can hope to head in a new direction. Please join in the process of initiating a public review of the goal of expansion.

Air, Water, Soil and Energy are essential to all life.
"To call these things sacred is to say that they have a value beyond their usefulness for human ends, that they themselves become the standards by which our acts, our economics, our laws, and our purpose must be judged. No one has the right to appropriate them or profit from them at the expense of others. Any government that fails to protect them forfeits its legitimacy."
