Devastating news. Members of the Nuxalk First Nation and their frien are remembering Nuxalk hereditary chief Qwatsinas (Edward Moody). He passed away August 31 in Bella Coola hospital from a malignant cancer that was diagnosed only ten days earlier. He was 59 years old andspent decades fighting to defend the coastal rainforest. He is a greatspirit who is loved and respected by thousands.
The G8/g20 aftermath:Who are the real thugs Joan Russow – Global Compliance Ressearch Project
The G8 and The G20 countries account for most of the nuclear weapons. for most of the 1.7 trillion global military budget, for most of the greenhouse gas emissions, and for most of the exploitation of the poor, and disenfranchised The Communiqué from the G8 was nothing more than a reaffirmation of their long held militarism and the Communiqué from the G20 was nothing more than industrial competitive global trade dribble
The G8/G20 strut and fret their days upon the stage,. A tale full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.
For the first time in our nation's history, Congress has passed comprehensive health care reform. America waited a hundred years and fought for decades to reach this moment. Tonight, thanks to you, we are finally here.
Karl Rove has caused a storm of protest by saying that he is proud of waterboarding and other “enhanced interrogation techniques” used on prisoners by the US and internationally condemned as torture. According to Rove torture is good and it seems international law and human rights don't matter. This was the man who was the Bush administration's public relations advisor and often called "Bushes Brain"

The Times Colonist reports today that developer Ken Mariash is selling off he Bayview Project. This is the old rail yard for our dilapidated E&N Island Rail system. It is the ideal location for a light rail station complex. Once it gets developed with high rises though, the concept of an island light rail will become distant wishful thinking. Now is the time to trade that dumb bridge idea that will equal more car traffic, for a nice new rapid rail system.

PEJ News - Inspector Tim Shields of the RCMP says that they arrested Wiebo Ludwig in the interest of public safety, especially in the Dawson Creek area, where the bombings took place. So maybe I am stupid, but what was the charge. He wasn't just held for questioning. He was arrested. So what was the charge? If he was indeed a threat to public safety then, how is he a threat? Where is the proof of threat, or is this all just wishfull thinking on the part of the RCMP.
PEJ News - AP News reports that a man in Pennsylvania stole a Walmart scooter and tried to escape with $50. As the story goes he just got released from hospital after a domestic dispute where the man had been hit with a frying pan and table leg. Still in his hospital gown he got a scooter and got his ex-girlfriend to pay for his prescription medication. Instead he takes the money and makes a break for it on the Walmart scooter. He was apprehended and charged with robbery and disorderly conduct. It is not clear whether the charge was for the $50 or the Walmart scooter.
PEJ News - There are three things we can apply now rather than waiting for the next big rendez-vous of world leaders:
Start capping emissions from both industrial and transportation/building sources now - we know who the emitters are.
Temperatures in the Arctic vary but some have already reached 3 degree Centigrade increase; capping at 2 degrees as recommended at Copenhagen is no longer possible.
Charge the CEOs, board of directors of the fossil fuel industries and delinquent government leaders with crimes against humanity. They have known of the problem for decades and stalled while millions suffer and die from the effects.
PEJ News - News and Opinion - Remember Stuart Hertzog and his accusations about how unfair he was treated by the Green Party of which he was a member? Well it seems that Stuart was so unhappy with Elizabeth May running in his riding that he filed a complaint with Elections Canada. As it turns out Elections Canada informed him that it found insufficient grounds to even warrant pursuing an investigation. So now the road is clear for Elizabeth to sink Gary Lund in the next election. Perhaps Stuart could get a job reforming the Conservative Party. He certainly has laid the groundwork to get the job.
PEJ - News - Anyone Care about Wall Street? They have a new index called the Carper's Index. If nothing else it makes interesting reading. Here is where the money went.
The Loser's Guide: Redefining Winning Before It's Too Late
PEJ News -treebeard -There's an aspect to contemporary values that threatens both the planet and humanity itself: the false duality of winners and losers. There are a lot of historical and economic and even biological reasons for this, but more than anything else this paradigm presents our greatest risk and challenge.
There are many reasons why humans compete and some may even be valid, but this impulse has been co-opted by the marketplace and now defines almost all aspect of society.
"I just heard your One-n-One interview with Peter Mansbridge, and you are impressive. For “business” to admit culpability in an incident like your company experienced is unprecedented, in my view. Particularly when the customary approach is to deny, deny, deny!"
I was particularly interested in your statements that you are doing everything possible to ensure the safety of the food you are selling to consumers. How can this be when, if my info is correct, you are using US feces fed beef to manufacture your processed meats? Have you not heard that CFIA has stated that feces fed beef is a health risk to, not only the animals BUT also the consumers of food products from these animals! PEJ News - Speculation about the bomber of EnCana gas facilities has been running wild. Well here is my theory. The RCMP say it is a terrorist. How do they know this? I suspect that their interest is in a bigger budget and justice is the furthest thing from their minds.
What We Do Know Can Hurt Us -- "The ability to mount an immune response to influenza A (H1N1) infection is significantly compromised by a low level of arsenic exposure." This statement was made WRT when a "normal person or mouse is infected with the flu". I would suggest that this is equally true when a pig, chicken or turkey is infected with the flu. You and I know that Millions of pounds of arsenic are fed to poultry and pigs at the CAFOs of the world (and here someone asks - Why is the pigs and chickens immune system compromised to the point that these viruses are allowed to overwhelm it and mutate???) This Arsenic ends up in the meat you and I eat, the animal byproducts and poultry manure the livestock is forced to eat, as well as in the manure spread on farmers fields to fertilize crops which are in turn consumed by humans and animals (here, you must be starting to see the circle). You see, ALL the immune systems of humans and animals are "compromised" by this needless and reckless addition of Arsenic into the animals diet. When will "those mandated to look out for our safety", our "regulators" have the courage to admit their mistakes of the past and Ban the feeding of Arsenic to poultry and pigs.
