Fate of the birds is linked to ours

Victoria TIMES COLONIST
JULY 15, 2012

Does it matter that there are now fewer birds in Canada than there were 40 years ago? Can we do anything about it? The answer to both questions is yes.

A recently released study of data collected over a 40-year period shows the total number of Canadian birds has declined 12 per cent overall. Forty-four per cent of the species have decreased in numbers, 33 per cent have increased and 23 per cent have stayed the same. Some species have declined as much as 90 per cent.
