Does it matter that there are now fewer birds in Canada than there were 40 years ago? Can we do anything about it? The answer to both questions is yes. A recently released study of data collected over a 40-year period shows the total number of Canadian birds has declined 12 per cent overall. Forty-four per cent of the species have decreased in numbers, 33 per cent have increased and 23 per cent have stayed the same. Some species have declined as much as 90 per cent.

Victoria rises up against the tar sands, pipelines, tankers, capitalism and colonialismJoan Russow Pejnews Over 2000 people rallied at the Legislature and then walked to Centennial Square where there were panels and workshops. It was clear that this event is a beginning and foreshadowing of the solidarity resistance to come. There were passionate speeches from children from the Beaver Creek First Nations school, activists and elders in condemnation of the tar sands the pipe lines the tankers capitalism and colonialism .

For Immediate release March 21, 2012 from StopSmartMeters.ca Contrary to official statistics, BC Hydro and the provincial government continue to claim that less than 1% of BC residents oppose smart meters.
In fact, 36 BC municipalities have voted in support of a moratorium or opt out with respect to BC Hydro's Smart Meter program. These local governments represent 1.7 million people across the province. Based on BC figures, this represents 37% of the population.

A complaint has been filed under Section 47 of the Utilities Commission Act requesting an injunctive freeze on the wireless component of the Smart Meter Program without delay. This action is being taken to engage the Commission’s administrative function as a regulator of BC Hydro in accordance with the rule of law; only by operation of the rule of law can the public interest in health, security, privacy and safety be factored into Smart Meter Program decisions.
